About the Region
The Sherry Terroir
Sherry’s uniqueness lies in the fact it can only be cultivated in the Jerez region in southern Spain, also known to wine connoisseurs as ‘The Sherry Triangle’. Comprising of the region capital Jerez de la Frontera, the historic town of El Puerto de Santa María, and the seafront city Sanlúcar de Barrameda, this region is known for having a warm prevailing climate, with mild winters, very hot summers, high levels of rainfall and sunlight. All of this works wonders to the grape varieties most suited for the production of sherries. In addition, the region is also blessed with albariza, a chalk-like limestone soil rich in calcium carbonate and silica, whose moisture-retentive ability allows it to yield the best grape harvests for the most sought-after sherries in the world.
